    Fondée en 1919 sous le nom de Fabbrica Italiana Magneti Marelli (FIMM), une coentreprise entre Fiat et Ercole Marelli (1891-1993). L'entreprise italienne d'appareils électriques fabriquait initialement des aimants d'allumage pour les industries automobile et aérospatiale, avec sa première usine à Sesto San Giovanni près de Milan.

    Le 22 octobre 2018, il a été annoncé que Magneti Marelli était en cours d'achat pour fusionner avec le constructeur automobile japonais Calsonic Kansei dans le cadre d'un accord qui créerait l'un des plus grands fournisseurs mondiaux de pièces automobiles.

    En mai 2019, Magneti Marelli et Calsonic Kansei ont fusionné pour former Marelli.
